I believe that our greatest happiness comes from serving others. However, it is very important that we take time to take care of ourselves so that we can actually serve others better. I like the way Steve Chandler puts it in his book, Fearless:
“It takes courage to put yourself first. We’ve been shamed for being selfish. That was always the most cutting accusation. But when you start honoring your own time with yourself, you will still serve others. In fact even better. Because there’s a more focused, masterful you to do the serving. So the difference is this: your own life comes first: a fearless decision.”
In our busy lives, sometimes we feel guilty or get guilt from others when we need to take time for ourselves. We have to remember that if we don’t take care of ourselves, we won’t be nearly as effective at taking care of anyone else. But when we are “fully charged” we will have what it takes to take on the many responsibilities and challenges we face daily.
As an introvert, you need to allow yourself that time to recharge, to read a book, to exercise, to think. You are not being selfish. You are taking care of yourself.
