I had two main goals in mind when I began this blog. First, I wanted to help introverts that are not getting what they want out of life to better understand themselves and learn to use their gifts to feel happy and accepted. And second, I wanted to help introverts who are happy with their lives to find acceptance.
Understanding Your Introversion
Some introverts are not getting what they want out of life because they lack an understanding of their introverted nature. This was me. For the longest time, I thought something was wrong with me and I was frustrated with myself. I felt like I wasn’t very good at building relationships or making connections and I wanted to get better.
As I studied and learned about introversion, I began to understand that I naturally spend more time in my head. I also realized that introverts and extroverts have different communication styles and different strengths. I have learned that by understanding and embracing our uniqueness, we can make changes and get what we want out of life.
Acceptance as an Introvert
I recently gave a presentation that included a discussion of introversion and extroversion. After the presentation, a person I know well who was in the audience came up to talk to me. She said that even though she didn’t really learn anything new, as she had studied the topic extensively, it was a great reminder that she was “OK.” She told me that she was married to her best friend and they loved spending time together, just the two of them. She is social with others, but often feels pressure to spend more time socializing than she prefers. Our discussion on introversion served as a reminder that she knows what she enjoys better than anyone else, and that it is OK to feel this way.
Getting What You Want
Please don’t compare yourself to others, but figure out what you want out of life. If you are happy don’t let others tell you that you’re not. If you want more out of life then get to know your strengths and needs and use those to get better! You can’t change whether you are introverted or extroverted, but you can come to a beautiful understanding of yourself and others to get everything you want out of life.
