Things have been a little crazy and I was feeling particularly stressed the past couple of days. Luckily, I had a vacation day planned for today. I did not end up have something specific planned, but it was the best thing for me. I woke up naturally, just a little later than I normally would. I had a more leisurely morning and was not in such a rush. It was definitely the stress reliever I needed. Of course this is not always possible, but it worked out great today.
Sometimes, a staycation is the most relaxing vacation.
This experience made me reflect on how I use my vacation time in general. I do take plenty of trips, visits to relatives and friends, camping, trips to Disneyland, etc. These are fun, but not usually relaxing. I try my best to take at least a day off before and a day off after to relax. This doesn’t always work out, but it is ideal for me when possible.
I am also a big fan of sometimes taking a week off and staying home or taking the staycation. This can actually be very relaxing for me as an introvert. Often when talking about taking a staycation, people ask “where are you going?” and I say ” nowhere.” I get puzzled looks and sometimes even looks of pity. I had a co-worker once who would never take vacation time if she was not going somewhere. It’s funny that somehow our society in general thinks that you have to go somewhere to take vacation. I do like to travel, but my introverted self enjoys some time off work and at home from time to time. This is a very healthy approach for me.
