Don’t try to be like others.  What is this dream you have, and why not you? Nobody is better.  I have heard it said that everyone has the same 24 hours, just some use the hours better.  And I believe that the successful ones use their strengths during this 24 hours.

I was facilitating a workshop on strengths a few years ago and I remember a group of people in the workshop being resistant to the idea that we should focus much more on strengths versus spending more time on weakness.  It seemed that they were hearing that our strengths limit us and our choices.  I explained that understanding your strengths actually free you to do what ever you want to do.  I gave the example that I could go into sales (although this sounds awful to me) and I could excel at it, but as an introvert I would go about a career in sales much differently than would an extroverted person.

Marcus Buckingham & Donald Clifton in Now, Discover Your Strengths wrote:

To excel in your chosen field and to find lasting satisfaction in doing so, you will need to understand your unique patterns. You will need to become an expert at finding and describing and applying and practicing and refining your strengths.”

Giving the majority of our focus to our strengths will produce far more success and happiness than if we choose to focus on our weaknesses.  We do have to deal with our weaknesses, but the focus should always be on our strengths.
