Introverts & Extroverts

Introverts think, and then speak.

Extroverts speak, to think.

Introverts process information internally, then they can express it outwardly. Extroverts process information outwardly, as they speak {think} out loud.

One of the biggest causes of frustration between introverts and extroverts is this difference in thought processing. During a conversation, when an extrovert is continuously thinking out loud, the introvert may not be able to get any words into the conversation. Alternatively, an extrovert may get impatient waiting for answers as the introvert is thinking before speaking.

One solution I’ve found is to be a great listener and let the extrovert talk it out to himself. You can still be engaged in this sometimes seemingly one-sided conversation, and allow the person to work through their external thought process. If you’re not ready at the time you need to add input to the discussion, you can always say, “Let me give that some thought.”

For extroverts, remember that the introvert needs time to process – quietly – so give them the information, and they will give it their consideration and often come up with some great insight if you allow them the time to do so. Pause every so often to give the introvert time to respond.

See? We can all get along!

Be Your Best Self

Two people walking on the beach at sunset, inspiring quote about being your best self.

world-class-life

We all have unique strengths.  For some reason, no ONE person has ALL strengths and this makes us all depend on each other.  Introverts can display their individual strengths as they take on challenges and problems — you know, the ones they’ve been going over and over non-stop in their minds.

I have had a hard time fitting in throughout my life because I often saw the world differently. Now that I am older, I find that different is good and I can use my unique abilities to solve challenges and be innovative.

I love this quote in Now, Discover Your Strengths by Donald O. Clifton and Marcus Buckingham,  “If your senses are numbed with delusion and denial, you will stop looking for these true strengths and wind up living a second-rate version of someone’s life rather than a worldclass version of your own.”

So be worldclass!

Welcome To My Blog

A stairway leading to a grassy area, welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my blog!  I hope you find some great ideas here whether you are an introvert or have someone in your life who is.  My main premise is that it is important to understand how you work naturally, so that you can make those changes in your thoughts and behaviors to achieve the goals that you have.

I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, so I always have this feeling that there is more to do before the launch.  More research, more reading, more thinking.  But in the words of Seth Godin “The only purpose of starting is to finish, and while the projects we do are never really finished, they must ship”  (Linchpin, Are You Indispensable?).  So I have hit the “publish” button for the first time and have officially “shipped”. Hope you enjoy our journey together!
